About this Work
Formerly titled “Exploration I: The Ibex”
I approached this work as a practice piece, in which I was crazy thirsty to be free of my usual carefulness and perfectionism.
From the get-go, I was uncharacterically sloppy and out-of-bounds. I started with a pouring down of black ink. Surprisingly sharp dark fragment-splatters cut across the virgin light surface - and all over my kitchen floors and walls.
The messy felt so good! And I carried that spirit forward with the figures - not censoring, just an unfiltered expression of whatever I was feeling in the moment. The process was visceral, and at times teetered into raunchy.
Nothing needed to make sense. I was experimenting, and my freedom was the most important thing. Inside this painting I feel the raw, uncensored force that moves through the unselfconscious me.
