The Journey of Persephone

The Journey of Persephone

(* This is a TWO PAINTING SERIES, sold together as a set.)
Each painting measures 12” x 9” x 3/4” deep.

Oil on ready-to-hang wood panel.

The painting on the left is Persephone: Kore.
On the right, Persephone: Queen of the Underworld.

I’ll be posting a video describing the process of creating these two works, shortly!

(Brief summary: Persephone as Kore, as the young girl embodying innocence and a childlike naivete, is taken into the underworld by Hades. Over time, she matures into Persephone, Queen of the Underworld. Claiming her throne, she no longer identifies with victimhood, and finds her own place in the world, her core, her power. She guides others through the darkness of the psyche and soul with skill and compassion. These two paintings depict first Persephone’s innocence, and then her maturation.)

(And: these archetypes live in us, some more than others - even boys and men. There is a great amount of Persephone alive in me, and the painting of these two pieces is part of my work to mature the Persephone within myself.)
